A few years ago, Canadian parents opened their mailboxes to find substantial cheques in their mailboxes. More children meant more money from the national government. The "baby bonus" continued until the children reached the age of majority (18 years). Even as the financial burden of this pro-natalist policy pushed the national government to cut back on the bonus, the Canadian province of Quebec extended their own bonus to sustain and expand the Quebecois population. The long term results are reviewed in this report.
While many governments try to exert pressure on population trends, the populace sometimes has their own plan to shape the future - often with surprising results.
